Teaching Children Lessons for A Lifetime
Do you remember your first bike ride? Maybe you were just three at the time. The “bike” may have been a little red tricycle, and perhaps the “trail” was the driveway in front of your house. But what you probably remember most about your first bike ride are feelings of accomplishment, exhilaration and independence. Now is your chance to share those feelings and a similar experience with kids who might otherwise never get the opportunity. All it takes is a bike, a trail, and your time....
Trips for Kids Southern Colorado is a non-profit organization that provides mountain bike outings for underprivileged youth in our area. As part of a nationwide organization, the local chapter was founded to teach inner city, low-income children (ages 10-17) about healthy living, environmental awareness and personal responsibility through the simple act of having fun.
Out in the woods, our kids overcome obstacles and discover strength they did not know they had. Self esteem is enhanced, good choices are made and bonds are created. At the end of each ride we share our stories and relate them to our lives at home.
After all its more than a bike ride, it's a lesson for a lifetime.
If you would like to get involved as a volunteer, schedule a ride or just find out more, please contact us.
